# Task dependencies

> Mark a task as waiting on another one. Taskly shows what is blocked and moves dates for you when plans change.

Some tasks cannot start until another one is done. The design must be approved before it is built; the copy must be final before it is translated. Task dependencies make these links visible.

## What’s new

- **Blocking and waiting on**: link any two tasks from the task’s **Dependencies** panel.
- **Clear status**: tasks that are waiting on unfinished work show a blocked badge, and the blocking task shows how many tasks depend on it.
- **Automatic dates**: when you move a blocking task, Taskly offers to shift the dates of every task that depends on it.
- **Calendar lines**: in the calendar view, dependencies are drawn as thin lines between tasks.

## Tips

> Keep dependency chains short. If a task waits on more than two others, it is often a sign that it should be split.

Dependencies work across projects, so a marketing task can wait on a product task. Guests only see dependencies between tasks in the project they were invited to.
